As one of the most prolific actors in the world, Johnny Depp has had a varied career. While most of his films have been dramatic, he has also starred in a number of comedies and musicals. Although he has a reputation as an actor with a penchant for escapist plotlines, Depp has avoided romantic roles in favor of broad comedy and action westerns.
Depp’s first big break came in the horror film “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and gained prominence on the TV series “21 Jump Street.” In the 1990s, he continued to work in indie films, but found success in collaborations with director Tim Burton. He starred in The Diary of Anne Frank (1990), Edward Scissorhands (1991), and Sleepy Hollow (1999). Later, he was cast as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. By the end of the series, Depp had earned more than $75 million.
While Depp has starred in a number of successful movies, his most recent movies have been rather mediocre. After starring in two remakes of Pirates of the Caribbean, he starred in a poorly received film, The Tourist.
